Gamma Linoleic Acid - Revivogen MD Scalp Therapy

Revivogen MD's main active ingredient is Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), along with Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA), Linoleic and Oleic Acid.

Gamma Linolenic Acid is a essential fatty acid that is found in plant oils, and these acids have been show to repress 5-alpha reductase production. 5-alpha reductase is the enzyme that is responsible for the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone across the body. While DHT has other functions, one of the side effects is its reaction with androgen receptors at the base of hair follicles. These reaction is what causes genetic hair loss. The distribution of these androgen receptors is inherited from our parents.

So when applied topically Gamma Linolenic Acid is able to reduce the serum DHT levels in the scalp and therefore reduce the level of hair loss seen in those particularly susceptible.

Study

A that showed the ability of Gamma Linolenic Acid was published in 1997. Hamster flank organs were directly treated with topical testosterone. The effect of this was the flank organ became larger and darker. The same result was seen when dihydrotestosterone was applied to the flank organs. 

When the Gamma Linolenic Acid was applied with the testosterone solution onto the organ, there was no noticeable change in the flank organ. the Gamma Linolenic Acid had successfully prevented the conversion of testosterone into DHT.

The study found the effects of the GLA to be localised to the area where is was applied. Other organs didn't see any suppression of DHT production.

Revivogen MD have conducted their own clinical trial with an 88% success rate amongst the men and women that participated. In the first 2 to 4 weeks, users will notice an increase in their hair shedding. This is caused by a restarting of the hair growth cycle causing a new hair to start growing.
